Steward

Finds regulated data where it should not be, and access that should not exist.

What changes for the organisation

You learn where regulated data actually lives, and who can reach it who should not.

How it works

Approved file shares, document repositories, database exports and records systems are scanned to locate regulated or confidential data and suggest classification. AD and application entitlement data are joined to surface dormant accounts, excessive privilege and toxic combinations.

What it watches
  • Approved file shares, document repositories, database exports and records systems
  • AD and application entitlement data
  • Correlated activity signals: repeated overrides, unusual downloads, repository cloning, printing, USB, email and destination activity
How it actually works

The mechanism, not the marketing. If a step below would not survive an engineer's scrutiny, it should not be on this page.

1
Scanning is scoped and approved, never exploratory
Named shares, repositories, database exports and records systems. Nothing is discovered by crawling everything the service account happens to be able to reach.
2
Classification is suggested; the owner decides
Located material is matched by the same detector stack plus contextual classification, and mapped to your configured taxonomy. The data owner applies the label — the system proposes.
3
Entitlement analysis is graph work, not inference
AD and application entitlements are joined by deterministic graph analysis to surface dormant and orphaned accounts, excessive privilege, toxic combinations, service-account misuse and anomalous group changes. Those are computed facts.
4
The model explains and ranks what the graph found
It does not originate a risk assertion about a person. It makes a list of two hundred candidate findings small enough that a reviewer acts on the right one first.
5
ACL snapshots are preserved at ingestion
Retrieval is trimmed against them, so a reviewer sees the case they are assigned and nothing adjacent to it. Revocation propagates on a measured SLO through chunks, embeddings, caches and derived results.
6
Insider-risk output is evidence plus hypothesis, always
Never a determination, and never an input to an employment decision. A hypothesis a human can disprove is useful; a score that looks like a verdict is dangerous.
7
Legal prerequisites are checked at onboarding
Employee notice, purpose limitation, proportionality and jurisdiction-specific review are deployment prerequisites. The disclosure template pack ships as a product deliverable for your HR and legal teams to adapt.

03Evidence outputs

  • Classification suggestions with the located material and its owner
  • Entitlement findings with the source-system ACL snapshot they were derived from
  • Insider-risk cases presented as evidence plus hypothesis, with reviewer disposition recorded

A case

The file share nobody owned

The finding is about a folder. It is deliberately not about a person.

Scope
An approved scan of one departmental file share, agreed in advance with the data owner.
Discovery
11,400 files containing regulated personal data. 3,900 of them older than the retention schedule permits — an over-retention exposure that exists whether or not anyone ever misuses it.
Entitlement
One folder inherits permissions from a security group with 340 members, of whom 12 are actually in the department. Deterministic graph analysis, not an inference.
Prioritisation
The model ranks this above roughly 200 other findings and explains why: regulated content, excessive reach, no named owner, and retention already breached.
Remediation
The data owner reviews, confirms, assigns ownership, corrects inheritance, and applies the retention schedule.
What it came to

No individual was scored, profiled or flagged at any point. The exposure was structural, the remedy was structural, and the record shows a folder being fixed rather than a person being investigated.

How a decision gets made

The authority ladder. Green rungs are authoritative — a rule, a scanner, a sandbox, or a person. Blue is where the model contributes. Amber is where a human decides.

01
Authoritative signal
Graph, rule and anomaly systems produce the candidate signals. The model does not originate a risk assertion about a person.
02
Bounded context
Case-scoped evidence appropriate to the reviewer's role — never unrelated employee or content data.
03
Model contribution
Explanation and prioritisation: which candidate signals matter, why, and what evidence supports them.
04
Human control
Data and application owners decide classification and remediation. HR, legal and privacy reviewers govern any employee-monitoring use.

What the model adds

Prioritisation and explanation across a signal volume no reviewer could read — and the hypothesis that makes a case worth opening.

What it cannot claim

It cannot conclude intent. An inference about a person is a hypothesis with evidence attached, never a determination.

What it will never do
  • Never labels a person malicious from model output.
  • Never treats a model inference as an employment decision.
  • Never proceeds without employee notice, purpose limitation, proportionality and jurisdiction-specific review — those are deployment prerequisites, not options.
  • Never surfaces employee or content data unrelated to the assigned case.
What evidence it leaves
  • Classification suggestions with the located material and its owner
  • Entitlement findings with the source-system ACL snapshot they were derived from
  • Insider-risk cases presented as evidence plus hypothesis, with reviewer disposition recorded

Not built

A specification, not a simulation

We will not show you a scripted demonstration of something that does not exist. What we publish instead is the workflow specification, held to the same standard as shipped work: actor, trigger, happy path, exceptions, terminal state, and the audit evidence it must leave. When it is built, this section becomes a demonstration.

Status and what promotion requires

Roadmap discovery. Promotion requires named document repositories and identity sources, case-precision targets, and a documented fairness review.
